Next week, more than 36 million children, ages 5-14, will go trick-or-treating in the U.S.  They’re counting down, putting the finishing touches on their costumes and hoping that their neighbors bought plenty of good candy.  But kids aren’t the only ones getting into the Halloween spirit.  According to the National Retail Federation, 85% of 18-24 year olds will celebrate the holiday.  77% of 25-34 year olds and 71% of 35-44 year olds will also be celebrating—most by hosting or attending large house parties.

They’re buying spirits to make creepy cocktails.  They’re buying Pumpkin Ales with wicked cool labels and some even use the stuff to make ice cream.  They’re buying and making special-occasion chocolates, to be part of elaborate displays during the party and to be taken home as favors.  Fancy cakes and salty snacks that carry out the “haunted house” party theme are also critical to the creation of a spooky atmosphere.  Read more...
